Inexpensive media may have problems playing back smooth when you get near the end of the video (edge of Disc) too. Then I proceeded to carefully wipe the lens (it's a laptop writer and dust was clearly visible) -- that was enough. I have to start the program and then go to device properties just before the burn process and enable it. If it's out of warranty, or there's no easy way to have it checked out, you can try cleaning it. error...

As the laser ages it may need to be set for more power to compensate for the weakening. That worked! Anyway I'll try to disable IMAPI service and go back to full speed again.
